Water Column Limu IV

Full title: Water Column: Litany of Limu IV  Upon invitation from Hawai'i Sea Grant, I had the opportunity to collaborate with scientists and cultural practitioners to learn more about limu and create a fiber art series celebrating seaweed. The layers of information in this knitted textile begin with a blue background as a cross-section of the ocean. Superimposed upon the gradient is a data set in the form of a bar graph indicating species diversity of green, red and brown seaweed. The yarns are the actual colors of local limu, positioned according to the relative depths at which they are found in the marine ecosystem.
