Walking along the eastern shores of Oahu looking for driftwood, I was inspired by hau tree flowers that bloom a bright yellow and change to a deep red at the end of the day before falling to the ground. My intention was to capture the warm colors of yellow, gold and red and the beauty that exists even at the end of nature's cycle. This painting went through many changes with layers of marks and shapes and an addition of collage using leaves embedded in Japanese washi paper.
