Over 40 years ago, Architects Hawaii commissioned us to paint "Hawaiian Waters" for a couple of lobbies in Waikiki. This was to be a modern format, a view below the horizon line like Monet's "Water Lillies," but of clear Pacific Water. We've been making variations of these "reef" paintings since then, and though its been copied repeatedly, we still keep developing new variations while refining the basic theme of clear ocean water with sand, coral, rock, marine life, etc. When you add in waves, currents, reflections, shadows, etc., now we are talking about infinite variations, a spiritual journey of endless interest. Our main contribution might be in having painted "The Best Beaches of Hawaii" for the City and County of Honolulu. The Lahaina Triptych" is a part of that genre. The "Reef" paintings are a sub genre of that work in which only the detail of the water are magnified. The "Braden Studio" signed works designate works from the Master's studio that might be just studies, part of an exploration, anything short of a masterpiece. KEYWORDS: reef, reflections
