Portrait of a Peacock

This closeup of a peacock was painted over a long time period using acrylic paints and also real peacock barbules from a pet peacock I had as a teenager. The feather structure is the reason for coloration with peacock feathers, so they will not fade over time. Since they are encased within an acrylic clear coat, this allows for the iridescence of the actual feathers to be part of this painting. I have always felt a connection to peacocks ever since I was young and used to hunt for their molted feathers.
