Pipe Dream - Man Moji Soul Wave series, north shore Oahu, HI. Pipe Dream is a pivotal work in Khawaja’s Mun Moji Soul Wave series, a body of work that began in 2018 on Oahu’s North Shore. This painting immortalizes the iconic Pipeline surf break and channels its surreal beauty and magnetic pull, where nature’s primal forces converge with aesthetic transcendence, embodying the ultimate surfer’s dream. The composition captures the dramatic power of its famous barreling waves, epitomizing the surfer’s utopia. Yet, Pipe Dream transcends the notion of a mere surf spot; it depicts Pipeline as a mythical vision of the perfect barrel, where human skill and nature’s untamed energy coalesce. Through its composition, the painting distills the essence of Pipeline, where the perfect barrel fuses the ocean’s unbridled energy and evokes both exhilaration and peril, demanding skill and a deep respect for the ocean’s power. Pipeline also holds deep meaning in Hawaiian tradition, revered by locals for generations as a sacred place where the rhythms of the ocean are interwoven with the island’s spiritual fabric. Through this work, Khawaja captures the symbiotic dance between surfer and wave, dream and reality, nature and spirit. The  Mun Moji Soul Wave  series was inspired by Khawaja’s childhood nickname,  Mun Moji , meaning "a heart free like a wave" in Urdu. This body of work reflects her profound, personal connection to the ocean. The wild, untamed waves symbolize the same boundless freedom and vitality that define both the human spirit and her journey as an artist and immigrant. For Khawaja, painting the Hawaiian ocean waves was not merely an artistic endeavor but a visceral, soulful experience—deeply intertwined with cherished memories of her parents and her love for the ocean and the Hawaiian islands. Through this series, she captures the essence of the Hawaiian sea and the mysticism of its culture, offering a heartfelt tribute to her parents, the Hawaiian people, and the land that inspired this transformative body of work.
