"Fiery Muse" depicts a larger-than-life red heliconia flower whose scarlet bracts contrast with the gold and mahogany background. I drew inspiration from the Japanese gold leaf screens in my grandmother's home, as well as the tropical flowers she adored. Heliconia are named after Mount Helicon, home of the Greek Muses. 2024 was a year of many challenges, overcome by leaning into hope and growth. Painting this collection was an act of peaceful defiance, transmuting struggles into healing.
