As with many of my paintings, this one went through many stages. The final version is turned upside down from the original beginnings. As I paint, I turn the canvas constantly to check composition and balance. When a focus begins to emerge, whether it holds to my initial intention or not, I will pursue the image until it feels right. In this case, my intention turned from a feeling of expansive non-stop action to one that is less dramatic, a bit quieter with more restful spaces. There is a flux of movement and transformation, a state of becoming.
