Illuminated ʻAkohekohe

For my latest entry into the illuminated native bird series (inspired by illuminated manuscripts of Europe), I chose to paint an ʻakohekohe. This small bird is one of the most interesting-looking honeycreepers. With a mohawk of feathers and a striking color combination of orange/red, gray and black, This is certainly a bird that has a memorable look!

Materials: Acrylic and Metal leaf (zinc/copper)
