This urn is made of Hawaiian Koa wood, a rare and precious wood endemic to the Hawaiian Islands. Koa, in the Hawaiian language means brave, bold, fearless, or warrior. Koa wood is becoming more and more difficult to get as the trees are endangered and the wood can only be harvested after the tree has fallen naturally. My koa wood comes from the slopes of the Big Island of Hawaii where the trees grow best at higher elevations. This urn is unique in its color and curly pattern variation. This urn is designed to accommodate approximately 370 pounds. The urn is finished with satin lacquer. The opening is located at the bottom of the urn with a cover made of zebra wood, an exotic wood from Africa sought after for its beautiful black and creamy striped timber. The cover is lined with black felt to ensure a tight seal. The cover is held in place with four screws. KEYWORDS: Sculpture, wood, decor
